Schooner Script replicates the handwriting of Samuel Clarke, pastor of a church in Princeton, Massachusetts, in a letter to his congregation dated 18 September 1825 -- a plea for donations to help some families who lost their belongings in an accident at sea. (The ill-fated boat was, in fact, a sloop, but a digital typeface already goes by that name.) Clarke's script seems to typify the neat, distinctive penmanship of the period. Schooner Script has a single, medium weight and full character set, including some alternate letterforms and common (English) words. Additional features in the OpenType release include standard and discretionary ligatures, true fractions, lining and tabular figures, and support for Central and Eastern European languages.
